ECT Final 4 is set, with MSDA, Nutley, Caldwell and Cedar Grove; Lions new No. 1; Mounties continue to improve

Mount St. Dominic’s hard-earned 2-0 win over Montclair on May 11 has set up the Essex County Tournament semifinals for May 16, at Ivy Hill Park in Newark.

The MSD Lions, seeded second, take on sixth seeded Caldwell in the first game, at 6 p.m. while fourth-seeded Nutley battles ninth-seeded Cedar Grove in the 8 p.m. matchup.

Mount St. Dominic had its hands full on Sunday against a determined Montclair team, before Olivia Gemma hit a ‘Forego‘-like 2-run homer for the game’s only runs.

Montclair continues to play well, and the Mounties turned in a solid defensive effort, as well as an excellent game in the circle. (We’ll have more on Montclair later this week).

There should be no question about the quality job head coach Dan Roberts and his staff are doing at Montclair.

As far as the Final Four, there will be plenty to talk about leading up to Friday’s exciting games. Check back during the week for updates.

Here is the updated FMTC Top 10 rankings, as Mount St. Dominic moves up to number 1.
