Parity reigns at Region 4.
With the finals set to start at 5 p.m. (ridiculous!), it gave me time to tally up the overall results of athletes who will represent the region at Boardwalk Hall, beginning on March 8.
Remember, this year, all wrestlers are assured at least two bouts at the states. Gone are the days when a wrestler would go to AC, lose his 5 p.m. bout on that Friday, then be eliminated from the tournament. Now, if a wrestler loses his preliminary bout on Friday night, he’ll get at least one more match the following morning.
Anyway, with that said, 19 schools from Region 4 have at least one wrestler qualifying for the states.
Congratulations to St. Peter’s Prep, which has eight wrestlers in the finals and nine overall, heading to Atlantic City. Nutley, which battled injuries all season long, ended up finishing its usual strong self and will take four wrestlers to the states. Livingston and Becton have three each going while West Essex, Passaic Valley, Newark Academy, West Orange, Verona, Clifton, Hasbrouck Heights and North Bergen will each have two wrestlers represented.
Seven other schools, Cedar Grove, Cliffside Park, Secaucus, Passaic Tech, Union City, Rutherford and Caldwell are sending one each.
